OBESITY AND ABORTION

"Michelle Obama, who has .... lobbied Congress and crisscrossed the United States to promote the virtues of healthy eating and exercise, wants to take her campaign to reduce childhood obesity to a bigger audience: the global one."

Sarah Palin and other Republicans have complained that this is big brother activity with the Federal government telling citizens what they can eat. "Taking away our freedom -- interfering with our liberty.

Isn't it strange that they would decry healthy food recommendations, while interfering mightily with a woman's right to choose, to control her own reproductive rights? I thought that Republicans want limited government , not an expansive one that monitors and restricts abortions all over our country.

  • I changed my opinion on abortion rights when I learned the true translation of "Thou shalt not kill." It really is: "Thou shalt not murder."

I listened to a former PP executive director tell of her experience helping to abort a 26 week old fetus. She said she had always been told a fetus at that age did not feel, and when she spoke with women she shared that "fact" with them. As she held the hand of the woman getting the abortion, she could see the sonogram, and as she said,"she could see the fetus trying to escape the tube that was sucking it out." She quit and began speaking out against abortion.

The question for me changed from, what is a woman's right? To, can I stand on the sidelines as innocents are murdered? There are babies being delivered at 26 weeks that are able to survive (medical costs of this practice are another debate....), but it is also okay to kill them...

The US spends so much $ to educate on sex, drugs, and other moral choices, with seemingly little impact. Parents seem to be the most important educators, where are they?
