Egypt's Constitution

The new Egyptian Constitution has just been approved in a referendum. Turnout was low and irregularities are charged but the approval vote was over 60%

Many have objected that the Constitution, drafted by the Islamists in power, does not protect religious, minority, and women's rights and threatens a strict Islamist state. However, there is a chance, although a very slim one, that the shortcomings will be corrected through amendments. Remember that our U.S. Constitution, approved in 1787, was supplemented by the 10 Amendments of the Bill of Rights, approved in 1791.
