Supreme Court Throws Out Ruling Blocking Texas Voter ID Law

"The court's action Thursday was a predictable result of its major ruling two days earlier that effectively ended the federal government's strict supervision of elections in Texas and other states with a history of discrimination in voting."

Those conservative justices obviously can see that photo ID and similar laws are designed to discriminate against minority voters and young voters. But they won't acknowledge it. So they can blithely kill Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act at a time when more and more Republican states enact voter discrimination laws.

What is needed is some form of action that includes subpoena power so that e-mails and memos can be obtained and testimony ordered that will show the intent of these laws, which lack legitimate state interest. It is also likely that the nationwide Republican conspiracy to enact these restrictive laws will be uncovered.
