Short Turtle Story
Between one end of our house and our wooded area is a pathway about 7 ft wide. It is mostly sand on top of dirt. Four days ago, I walked that way and saw a turtle sitting in the middle of the path. From its pretty shell, about 8" across, I could tell that is one of the turtles I feed by hand in the pond most days.
Strangely, it did not move as I approached. Nor did it run or turn around to try to bite me as I tapped it from behind. Finally, I noted that this was a mother turtle, busy digging a hole for receiving her eggs.
I wondered how to protect this nest but decided to leave it alone. As of today, this spot is undetectable and undisturbed.
