ENEMIES LIST

It should surprise no one that the administration of Bush, Cheney, and Rove has its
own version of Nixon's enemies list. We don't yet know who is on it, perhaps one
holdover from the prior list, Daniel Schorr.

What we do know is that the latest addition is former Secretary of the Treasury,
Paul O'Neill, principal source of the damaging truths about the Bush administration
in Ron Suskind's book, The Price of Loyalty. The ink had hardly dried on the book
when the Bush team had in gear an investigation into O'Neill's supposed illegal
use of classified documents.

This immediate action is in stark contrast to the desultory White House
"investigation" into the leak, probably by an admistration official, of the name of
CIA undercover agent, Valerie Plame. This disclosure may well be a crime and
presumably was in retaliation for her husband's exposure of the false claims
justifying the Iraq invasion. Come to think of it, the husband, Joseph C.
Nelson, must also be on the Bush enemies list.

A double standard? Hardly a surprise.
