BEST POLITICAL MOVE OF 2007

Also the first savvy action reported this year.

Rep.-elect Keith Ellison, the first Muslim elected to Congress, found himself under attack last month when he announced he'd take his oath of office on the Koran — especially from Virginia Rep. Virgil Goode, who called it a threat to American values.

So what did Mr. Ellison do? He borrowed from the Rare Book and Special Collections Division of the Library of Congress Thomas Jefferson's personal copy of the Quran for his swearing in ceremony. This historical copy even contains notes made by the revered american, Thomas Jefferson.

What a masterful stroke! And a lesson for Mr. Goode and others who might make bigoted remarks.
