News item from NY Times about the President's last night:
Even as he called for unity Mr. Bush alluded to Democratic calls for a timetable to withdraw from Iraq, saying, “Whatever mistakes have been made in Iraq, the worst mistake would be to think that if we pulled out, the terrorists would leave us alone. They will not leave us alone.”
I don't know who in the world would think that the terrorists would leave us alone if we pulled out of Iraq. A ridiculous thought. Iraq has had nothing to do with the terrorists except for the fact that our invasion and occupation has made it easier to recruit new terrorists inside and outside of Iraq.
As for Mr Bush's contention that we're fighting them over there so that they won't attack us here, think Madrid, think London.
