Bush Names Pentagon General 'War Czar'

The White House said yesterday that President Bush ended his lengthy search for a so-called war czar to coordinate and carry out our policy in Iraq and Afghanistan by offering the job to Lt. General Douglas Lute.

After more than 4 years the President decides we need someone to run the show? And couldn't he wait a few more days to get Wolfowitz?


REPUBLICANS DIFFER OVER GUANTANAMO BAY


At the Republican candidates debate Tuesday night, former Governor Mitt Romney took a tougher line than President Bush and Mr. McCain, who have said they would like to shut down the detention center at Guantánamo Bay. Mr. Romney said he wanted the facility doubled in size.


Some observers claimed that, ever the smart businessman, Mr. Romney had made a substantial investment in land around Guantanamo Bay.

The debate winner: Again, Fred Thompson.
