Of course I'm in mourning. But I'll try to look at the bright side. With the Republican victory, we can now look forward to:
A vibrant economy, with lots of jobs
An end to those imaginary Obama tax increases
Keeping kids under 26 out of our health plans
No health insurance coverage for 30 million Americans
Insurers can deny coverage for pre-existing conditions
Giving student loan profits back to the banks
Returning credit card fine-print freedom back to the banks.
Banks will soon be free again to make wise, creative investments
Roll back auto bailout and let auto makers fail
Reverse the actual tax cuts and credits of the Obama administration?
Refuse the pay back from TARP recipients?
Save all of us rich from a few percentage points of tax on income over $250,000.
Carbon emitters, polluters will not have to face carbon tax or cap and trade.
No more deficits, a balanced budget
Fewer foreclosures, higher house prices
Privatizing Social Security
An end ot Afghanistan war - or a major escalation?
And with all this, pot did not get legalized in California
AND - from Maureen Dowd:
"....
Even though it was predicted, it was still a shock to see voters humiliate a brilliant and spellbinding young president, who’d had such a Kennedy-like beginning, while electing a lot of conservative nuts and promoting this central-casting congressman (Boehner) as the face of the future: a Republican who had vowed in a written pledge to restore America to old-fashioned values, returning to a gauzy “Leave It to Beaver” image that never existed even on the set of “Leave It to Beaver.”
Republicans outcommunicated a silver-tongued president who was supposed to be Ronald Reagan’s heir in the communications department.
They were able to persuade a lot of Americans that the couple in the White House was not American enough, not quite “normal,” too Communist, too radical, too Great Society. All that Ivy League schooling had made them think they knew better than average American folks, not to mention the founding fathers..... "
a note about Florida:
"Congratulations, Florida. Your new governor is likely disgraced hospital executive Rick Scott, who became notorious for buying up hospitals and downsizing them for profit. As Forbes reported in 2000, his company "increased Medicare billings by exaggerating the seriousness of the illnesses they were treating. It also granted doctors partnerships in company hospitals as a kickback for the doctors referring patients to HCA. In addition, it gave doctors ‘loans’ that were never expected to be paid back, free rent, free office furniture, and free drugs from hospital pharmacies. […] Scott was forced to resign in the wake of the initial fraud charges in 1997.” It had to pay the largest fraud settlement in U.S. history."
