INVESTIGATE, THEN INVESTIGATE
On October 21st, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld announced that the Pentagon would investigate the speeches of Lt. General William Boykin. It appears that no action would be taken until the Pentagon' Inspector General had investigated and reported.
What is there to investigate? There are tapes of speeches given by General Boykin, in uniform, containing statements that he is leading a "spiritual battle", and that we are a "Christian nation" fighting against "Satan". Do we have to examine the tapes to see if it is the general or an impersonator?
General Boykin is the Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence. He should be fired not only for misrepresenting our country and aiding the enemy, but also for downright stupidity.
Can we imagine Harry Truman waiting for an "investigation"?
