Another Republican Opinion

The candidate for Richard Lugar's seat in the U.S. Senate made this outrageous remark "... a life conceived by rape 'is something that God intended to happen' and must be protected.".

Is this a party that we want to put in power?

The Debates/The Election

President Obama was the clear winner in last night's debate on foreign policy. But this win and the second debate win were not enough to offset the Romney win in the first debate.

It is too bad that in our presidential elections so much depends on debate performances, where style generally trumps substance. Blame can be shared by the campaigns, the media, and vast numbers in the electorate that do not acquire and analyze sufficient information to make an informed decision.

My position is clear: despite the shortcomings that I have complained of, Obama has shown the intelligence, leadership, and initiatives that warrant a second term. The Democratic party has progressive stances that I mostly prefer over the Republican agenda favoring the rich and attacking women's rights and its obstructionist tactics that have hurt our nation.

And do we really want to elect a candidate without firm principles who will be leader of a party with a platform that would turn abortions into murder, and which houses Congressman Issa, "personhood " supporters, and climate deniers,  along with members who claim things like 81 Democratic officeholders are communists, that "legitimate"rape cannot result in pregnancy, that Obama is foreign born, that abortions cannot save the life of a mother, and that "... a life conceived by rape 'is something that God intended to happen' and must be protected.'
