COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS TO MARCH ON WASHINGTON

A protest march has been scheduled for September 18th by community organizers across the nation. From his headquarters in Chicago, activist Ed Sharpless announced that the anger of organizers would be expressed through this march, which is to culminate at the RNC offices. The dismissive remarks by Rudy Giuliani and Governor Sarah Palin at the Republican convention had created a ground swell of resentment among those doing the crucial work of organizing communities.

Before proceeding to the RNC, the community organizers will stage an event at the Lincoln Memorial, featuring music and an array of speakers, including Reverend Sharpless himself, a firebrand known for his powerful and inspiring speeches.

Washington police commissioner, Maurice Tobin, noted his concern for safety in the city on the day of the march. Citing the reputation of the community organizers for unruly and riotous behavior, the Commissioner placed his forces on alert and requested backup assistance from the Maryland National Guard.
