For Dr. Dean, a bad day at Des Moines. Lots of opinions on why he plummeted, but maybe it was just that his organization did not have enough tricycles to get his supporters to the caucuses.

Mr. Bush is again promising the nation enticing programs - even promising the moon, and Mars - that can't be achieved because his deficits have taken away the money.
Will the public buy his snake oil again?

The Democratic response was measured and thoughtful, but hardly inspiring. It was delivered by Nancy Pelosi and Tom Daschle who are good leaders but not blessed with overwhelming charisma. With a national audience and in an election year why not use the best you've got - Bill Clinton?
