APOLOGY

Once again, President Bush is getting away with statements that are designed to protect his image at the expense of the good for our country.

The world has been looking for an apology from the president of our country for the despicable treatment of prisoners in our custody. So Bush's answer to the world, given in a joint press briefing with King Abdullah II of Jordan, is "I told him I was sorry for the humiliation suffered by Iraqi prisoners..."

Is this what the Muslim world is looking for? I doubt it. A dictionary and a common understanding of an apology is the making of "a regretful acknowledgement of a fault or offense" Bush said that he had said he was sorry, as in "expressing sympathy, pity, or regret"

This statement that he had made a statement, is akin to "mistakes were made" and it is an absolute wonder that most of the media in this country have reported it as a real apology.
